Mary V. Schisler, a Lifetime Member of the Feather River Lapidary and Mineral Society, passed away in her sleep on July 8th, 2021. No services are planned. Her ashes were scattered in the Jackson State Forest.
From a young age, Mary was always interested in “pretty rocks and stones”. In the 1960’s, Mary got her first lapidary tools, after which she was off and running. She loved every aspect of her avocation. Learning the nomenclature, the chemistry, and the structure of minerals. She loved going to the geographic locations where those minerals could be found. She enjoyed the field hunts for samples and was always impressed with things her fellow rock hounds made with their discoveries. She had developed a large collection of crystal formations that she displayed throughout her home. She also had a work lab for beading where she conducted many classes. She loved sharing what she had learned over the years. Unfortunately, she lost it all in the Camp Fire – but that didn’t stop her. She started a small collection of crystal formations again and bought some beading materials and tools that she kept on display in her apartment. She was glad when others noticed and even happier to answer questions. Please, don’t send regrets, instead celebrate her memory. Remember her well in your own way. Her Lifetime Membership Certificate was hung prominently for all to see. She loved being a rock hound and all with whom she shared the passion.
