There is so much to say about our fellow rock hound and dear friend Dawn Cozine. I’m not sure where to begin. She was a devoted member of this club and worked tirelessly for the betterment of all involved in this organization. From the very first day that I joined this club I can remember her giving me encouragement on learning the ways of forming cabochons. She was also very outspoken on creating the working regulations of this club. Honestly, she scared me a little bit. She was never shy about speaking up and giving her opinions about which way this club should move forward and what would benefit all the members involved.
Dawn was the club’s field trip leader, which she excelled in. Her extensive knowledge of minerals and rocks and where to go to find them was a huge asset and benefitted all of us. She always went out a few days ahead of the scheduled field trip to make sure there was access for all and plenty of material to be found.
Dawn battled cancer for about the last 5 years. She had all the treatments that were available to her and made it to several remissions. She took a bad fall recently and broke her arm just below her shoulder. The pain of that, along with the cancer eventually took its toll on her and she passed Sunday, June 14th, 2015.
All of us are going to miss her a lot along with her many friends throughout the world. She was a member of the Artist’s of River Town, an advocate for animals and a loyal friend to many. Rest in peace, friend. We will miss you. We send our love to her husband Bud and her remaining family members.
