The stone for the 2024 Tumbling Contest was China Hollow Jasper/Agate from Oregon State.
The Feather River Lapidary & Mineral Society, Inc. would like to congratulate the top 3 winners of our tumbling contest.
- 1st place winner: Alan Grillo of Roseau, Minnesota
- 2nd place winner: Steven Smith of Orchard Park, New York
- 3rd place winner: Grace Haskin of Hyattsville, Maryland
The top three winners were rejudged after the eight were scored at 25 points. The stones were judged for finish, chips, polish left on rock, grinding marks and overall appearance. - Honorable Mention: Noel and Deb Runyan
Noel has been a part of the contest for many, many years. He was officially blind. Deb finished the stones after Noel passed away in the process of tumbling his stones this year. We will greatly miss receiving and judging his tumbling abilities. Godspeed to you Noel. Thank you Deb Runyan.
Wow! What a great year for the rock tumbling community that entered our World Rock Tumbling Contest, 2024
This was the hardest, most difficult year for the five judges to go through every stone sent back to us and decide who won. The work that every one of you did was phenomenal. Congratulations to everyone. I would like to thank the judges for their hard and long work they put in this year: John, Tami, Bonnie, Lupe and Dave. They put in a little more than 7 hours of work. Not an easy decision for them. It took a half an hour to decide first, second and third place alone. That is some awesome tumbling from all of you.
The three of you can now go on to brag about your tumbling prowess to the world. Your stones will be on display at our annual rock show, September 21 & 22 at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico CA. We will post pictures from that event in our website soon after. Please keep an eye on our website and facebook page for the upcoming 2025 contest coming soon. It has been a privilege working with all of you these past years. I cannot wait to see your future work next year. Be safe out there!
Congratulations again,
Lori Millard, 2024 Tumbling chair, Feather River Lapidary & Mineral Society, Inc
